I zipped one silkie all day, little by little. Must be my humidity, all the membranes seem tough. Well, she slid out of the shell, then I noticed she was still connected to the yolk and a vessel that was bleeding. It just kept bleeding, so I got some flour and sprinkled (understatement) it thick all over the vessel and yolk sac. It stopped the bleeding. Hope she's okay.

I don't know if this is your first hatch or not...but i have gotten in the horrible habbit w/each hatch I am getting more & more involved...and I think it's a bad thing. W/this hatched I pretty much peeled the eggs off for them & peeped them before they were ready & I think it caused trouble.
My next due date I am going to be at a dog show & I am relieved, so I wont be here to hurt any of the chix b/c I feel like it's my fault. I'd say if there isn't anything hanging from the chick, let it dry and see how it does. here's hoping it's nothing like mine was today.

You say you saw a yolk sac? In the future you would want to put the chick bum back into the shell or keep it moist as it needs to adsorb the yolk. A small bit of blood is normal but a yolk sac is not. It needed to be in the shell for another 12-24 hours to finish up. It was probably running slow and humidity was probably low because of opening and closing the bator. Good luck on the next hatch.

Sorry, I meant the remnants of the yolk sac, and I sprinkled flour on the bleeding vessel, and left the shell hanging on, and covered it with a moist paper towel. I probably did help too early. She is chirping and moving this morning, hope she'll do okay. Karen
