This little lady is about 14 weeks old. Just recently, in the past 3-4 days, she's began squawking when we get close and even pecking at us. Not so much me, but everyone else. My husband swears she crowed early this morning as he was leaving for work. What do you think? She's always been the dominant one, is she just getting more bossy and protective?

We live in a subdivision with close neighbors. A rooster wouldn't go over well.

You do have a cockerel, but it isn't the barred Rock. It's the Easter Egger.

You know, that's funny b/c as I was looking at them today, trying to decide if the BR was indeed a cockerel, I started looking at the EE and though "wait a minute!" I'm new at this but the EE appears to have saddle feathers, I think.

What makes you think she's a he? I actually posted another thread, earlier, asking about her.

I agree that bird in the back of the first pic is your potential crower. Color pattern is a clue, but you can really see those pretty saddle feathers starting to hang down in front of the tail. Those are 100% male traits.

So, several days have gone by. I've yet to hear the chicken crow. It's feathers are starting to come in more full. The hackle feathers are definitely pointy.

My new question is, do only roosters have shiny, iridescent type feathers or can hens have them also? S/he has some reddish-copper feathers coming in.
