Hopefully a Coop and run in the making.

I have never used that many pallets to build anything. But I can tell you that stripping down pallets is not easy! LOL LOTS of tearing out nails and it IS a pain in the rump. But you have the patience, anything is possible. I don't see why you couldn't use the same plans and with the size they have you using, you could double the size with twice as many pallet boards.

Good luck! :)

I don't see a need in buying plans. There are plenty of pictures and plans, at least written up how to, here on the BYC pages. They do a coop contest each year so you could scan back through those. There are free plans online also. The basic knowledge of what you need should suffice then make your own plan or modify dimensions of something you see and like.

Also a side note on pallets. Yeah they are free but agree completely with previous poster that you need a good back and a lot of free time to pry them apart. Just don't seem worth it when building a coop. I've built several composting bins with them and that's fine but a coop is simply easier using sheathing. To cut cost frame with 2x2's or 2x3's and use a t-11 type sheathing so the exterior is paint or stain ready. Quick n easy for not much money.

My 4'x4' coop is now on 4x4 posts in a 10'X10' dog kennel. I'm likeing this set up and it suits 7 chickens just fine.

This shows a grooved type sheathing I jus put a deck stain on. Lower picture shows external access nesting boxes.

And one more pic to show the tractor didn't go to waste after coop was put on stilts in a kennel as it's fitted now with a kids play house and used as grow out coop for chicks. Just installed a few roosting poles and wire meshed over the windows. New wheels on tractor and you can move it about now. The wood coop was far too heavy to move and crushed the old wheels.

Thanks for the comments and Egghead that coop is soo cute!

A question... If I build a 4' x 6' coop, how many "legs" would it need? Would it depend on the thickness of the wood? I was thinking 2 foot long 4"x4", but would I need just 4 of these for the corners or should I have 6?
