I bought 2 "pullets" from someone the end of August that were 2.5 months old at that time. I knew she was concerned about her babies and so I decided to sent her update photos at what would now be about 5.5 months. Her response was that the one is turning I to a beautiful rooster. I don't fault her just hoping she is wrong as my Aunt can't have roos and she is totally enamoured and has been handling "him" and her grandkids have been playing with "him".

The Tan is called Penny and is an Icelandic. The white is a Columbia Plymouth Rock and currently called Henny.

Well darn. I guess I'll watch his temperament and might move to my house. Assuming my one roo keeps pushing his luck. He's on strike 2 already.

Henny could be renamed Henry.

Henry is a lovely name for a rooster.

But I'm sad for your aunt if she's unable to have roosters. They're delightful creatures but can be challenging, and they crow several times a day.

How old are they in those pictures? Those feathers do look like they are getting long like saddle and hackle feathers would, but they should be 6+ months old and I’d expect more development in a male. But then again I haven’t raised Columbians* typo.

I agree, it does look a bit roosterish.. maybe if you could send some photos of its back feathers I could tell you for certain. If you can't or don't want to keep a rooster, hobby farms will often take them for free and not eat them

Only the white has been questioned. The Icelandic is the little tan one. The big white one is the one in question.

I have a hobby farm, I don't want everyone's roosters, and my extras get eaten. We don't want everyone's cats either.

Those look like rooster sickle feathers. I am often in the position of hoping against hope for a bird with a tail like that to somehow be a hen, but am always disappointed!

I got them for my Aunt. They are at her place. I have 2 roos that I got for protection but the dominant one has earned the nickname "The mean one". My older kids won't go outside without jeans on and my youngest boy won't go out at all. I got after the roo and locked him away from his girls 2 days while he had to watch me be in with them. He has bowed to me ever since. I've had my big boys push him back and keep him separated for 30 minutes until all the chickens were gathered. If he ever starts pushing back he's gone. Then I will take this one.
