Horatio is hurt :-(

Are there any other roosters/cockerels housed with him?

Looks like a wound from being grabbed by another bird to me. Only time I've had birds ripped open like that was from being grabbed/mounted.

Flush with soap/water, saline, betadine or chlorhexidine. Pat dryish, then apply triple antibiotic ointment. It should heal fine if the others don't peck at it. You may need to house him separately until it heals over.
Okay. Thanks so much.

BluKote is for scratches and minor wounds. When the wound has healed more, that may be used to prevent packing. But now, the wound is open and wide, and I would follow instructions for cleaning the wound and applying ointment, plus keeping him separated. A wire dog crate with food/water where he could still be with his flock might be good for that.
I see. We're on it.

Look through your coop for any exposed wire especially near holes that he could have tried to stick his head through. One of my hens got her head stuck in a seam in the wire and I had to cut a dangling piece of skin off her earlobe after it happened.
That's EXACTLY what hubs think is the culprit. We're on this as well. Thank you.

How is Horatio?
Again, thanks for asking. I thought I should share him now. Blurry, I know. He is running around the coop eating and holding his own.
