Horizontal Rubbermaid shed as coop

This is great info! I'm writing down the window & ventilation suggestions., as well as the height-off-the-ground info. I want to make sure they'll be comfortable in our Kansas extremes of temperatures -- it gets over 100°F (38°C) in summer and down to single digits (-16°C) or lower every winter.

gsim - Why the special caulk? Wouldn't regular exterior caulk be OK?

That is the exact same thing I used as my intial coop. It worked great. The roof slides back which made it very easy to clean out and hose out. I have bantams and made them low roosts by getting a wood rod you use for a closet (Home depot or Lowes HP) and the two end brackets that goes with the rod to sit it in and they worked great. That way the rods can be removed to be scrubbed when needed. Just make it tight so it doesn't spin on them. I also went to Michaels with my 40% off cupon and bought unfinshed book shelfs, two cubby-holes high for nesting boxes and just added a strip of wood across the front to keep the pine chips in. I also added a small personal fan mounted to the roof for air current because it would get hot here in the summer even thgouh it was in the shade. Good luck, enjoy and post pictures.

It's great! Take a look at my BYC page -- it needs updating, but has photos of the coop.
How do we find your 'BYC page'..I've never been able to figure that one out. Seems there should be a link on your profile, but I cant find it. Or you could put a link in your signature.

I'm curious, for those of you that have had your Rubbermaid shed in use during a hot, hot summer, how did it work out?
