Just noticed Mylo has a few green spots on her bill! I was reading through a few threads that said it could be hormonal and that it's a way of telling the sex of a duck? Is it a bit like a female coming into 'season'? She's in great form lots of head bobbing! :)

It would be best to post a pic if that's possible. It's probably hormonal, but hard to say without looking. Can you remind what breed it is?

She's a Pekin, coming up on 54mths now. Tried to take a pic but you can't really see them! They're a tiny speckling across the top of her bill, like green freckles! I read that the pigment from the beak goes to the yolk in the egg....is this true?!

Yes, it's true, and it's normal. More common once they've started laying, but you're almost always going to see it in while or pale-colored ducks that are sexually mature. It's worse in some than others, even in the same living conditions.

My male duck has a yellow bill, and around 5 months old he started getting green freckles. His bill is about 50% green now.
