the poor city is covered in smoke from the surrounding fires. Cars are coated in ash and air quality is level 5..
Can a chicken die from the poor air quality? They are saying to keep kids and elderly inside. And we are keeping our eldest dog inside. But I can’t help but think of my ladies.
Has anyone lost a chicken to poor air?

That is awful! Sorry to hear that...:hmm:hugsI don’t 100% know if the air quality would harm your chickens, but maybe keeping them in a coop would be a safe move.

Yes, air quality can definitely be hard on chickens, as they have sensitive respiratory systems. I would suggest lots of fresh water and add poultry vitamins and electrolytes to help them through the time of stress. Fresno heat can exacerbate the problem. Make sure they have lots of shade. Do you have a mister you can put in the end of a hose to provide some heat relief?

I have an unhealthy air quality index where I live in Utah, and we’re told not to spend time outside. I’m so worried about my sweet chickens outside!

They seem to be staying in the coop on their own. They also burrow under the coop to escape the heat.
I will be picking up vitamins to add to their water.
Thanks for the advice and I hope we all get better air quality soon:)
