I know I am not the only one who has had a really bad day, but common - I've had my share already for this year I think. Crappy hatches and the like have been abundant this year already. I woke this morning took the kids to school and stopped by the PO - I am expecting some eggs from ebay. Actually they should have been here a long time ago - like last week! Was handed a box that looked like someone had smashed it between two pickup trucks, but nothing was leaking out. Told the postmaster that if they packaged good all should be well. They didn't. Eggs were in a carton that was rubber banded shut - not good packaging IMO. Waited some time for these eggs after paying promptly - and every single egg was destroyed. ALL of them. Got home to let the chickens out of the coop and into their fenced yard, made mental note to contact ebay seller. On approaching the gate to the silkie/bantam coop noticed ALOT of feathers on the ground, picked some up - they have skin attached to them. On the threshhold are guts and other bits. Even worse I have several silkies strewn about inside the coop with guts out and heads off. My son is going to be crushed - these were his 4H birds. Cleanup the mess as best I could, made mental note to have my oldest on "patrol" outside tonight, there is no school tomorrow. Went back inside to check on my goose egg that the oldest kiddo has been looking forward to. No new developments there - which is bead since this guy has been pipped internally for nearly a week and no progress. I intervene. No, I did not kill the baby. But, I will have to later when I can bring myself to do it. It has such extreme crossbeak that it can't even open it's bill hardly. It look like someone grabbed the lower and upper halves of it poor bill and yanked them in towards each other. It is miserable and I don't see how it will ever be able to eat. The worst I have ever seen. Today sucks! How the HECK did that predator get in and back out of my closed coop?!?!?!?!
