Horrible day for anything poultry (rant)

What a terrible day. I'm so sorry.

Look for even very small openings as mink, weasels and rats can get in even the smallest opening and they are known for taking off/maiming heads like that.

I have seriously been considering something like that for a while now. We are right on the edge of the woods. Possoms and coons come right up the hill and stumble on our coops. They have gotten my rabbits right out of their cages. But, since we do have to sleep sometime and can't always be on patrol I have considered it in the past. Fencing our entire property is what has stopped me so far. Right now all of my coops but one has a fenced run. I do let my big mixes free range. Oddly enough, I hardly ever loose even any chicks being raised by broodies from that coop.

I do have one happy thing to report: nothing bad happened to my Seramas! I think my little hen is laying an egg right now. That's my good news for the day. It doesn't help with the loss of so many silkies, but it could have been worse. pdsavage, let me know if you ever have any litters - I may just want one eventually.
