Hi everyone.
My first post and first time raising chickens.
My 5 chickens are now about 12 weeks old, I’ve had them since 6 weeks.
I’m not sure how it happened but a couple of days ago I noticed that one of my chickens sat down all day which is unusual and later on I saw it try to get up but it’s right leg kept giving way.
It cannot put any weight on the leg and it seems to be completely dislocated at the knee - the leg will give way in any direction when it tries to walk and it’s completely floppy, there’s no resistance in the joint compared to when I move my other chickens legs.
I’ve had her isolated in a small box to rest but if anything it seems to have got worse over the last couple of days.
has anyone come across an injury like this before? I can see that for a broken leg you’re supposed to splint it but would that work in this case?
I really don’t want to have to cull her she’s such a lovely bird but I will have to if there’s no other option.
