Not sure this is the right place to post... But This is a 3 week old baby.. It was a late rough hatch.. I mean bad. Out of 37 eggs only 10 hatched by the hardest... One died the next day. 8 are doing GREAT!! Growing like crazy and happy! this one, that I thought I was going to lose at day 2 or 3.. Is still hanging.. Since day 1 it has always looked like he is panting... Not too hot, everyone else is fine. Conditions are right. This one had an issue with pasty butt.. I watched him and made sure he kept clean. He will eat drink and run around a little. Stands funny always, Eyes are closed allot, looks like he is panting, has slowed down and the others just knock him around and run over him. He crys ALLOT and trys to crawl under them. They peck him... He makes me sad and think he was hatched with problems, weak, ect... Would it be awful of me too cull..??

No, it wouldn't be awful for you to cull him. Sometimes that's the kindest thing to do and I have done it on more than one occasion.

An alternative might be to separate him with one or two other chicks, the most docile ones of the bunch. I don't think it would be mean to put him down, but I have had a couple that have surprised me when given a little time. Equally i've been wrong on other occasions and had to put them down a few days later.

It's possible he's panting because he's in pain. It is your call though, I'm not trying to sway you either way.

I think he is severly constipated... But for 3 weeks I have been trying everything to help.. His whole little back end seems SO bloated but his vent is clear.. I feel its out of my hands.. Thanks for the input!! I hsve soaked his whole little butt in warm water and given him olove oil, and he seems to be going down hill...

Poor little peeper! It just might be time then.

It's a sad situation. I've had one like that before. It just wasn't "right". Poorly, pitiful, crying all the time. We culled.

Are they getting vitamins in their water? If not he might need a boost of children's poly-vi-sol WITHOUT iron. It might be as simple as that.

And if he's constipated, how about a nice fiber-y fruit, like a strawberry. Or mix his feed in baby fruit, like pears or apples.

What's one more day to try something and see if he improves?

Thank You everyone... I feel less like a MONSTER... My DH culled him.. We have a fire outside so it worked out to cremate.... It is So sad.. When I looked in there to make my decision, he was squated down with his head tinted backwards.. DH was like, Its time That does not look good...
