Ok so my turkey had the same thing but from another chicken not its self.... That jacket is a great idea!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm proud of ya for thinking of that I think the Neosporin is a great idea tho try not to get it on the feathers around the wounds this Neosporin----feather contact causes a birds feather to become oily an REALY irritating to the bird....... But to the wound Neosporin is the best... Try to clean left over blood off the wound(s) ( I put the (s) right there because pecking causes a multi-layered wound like small rolling hills in the country.) so just be VERY care full of what you do from this point on. But what you have done so far is great good job !!!! Hope she fells better! Oh an keep that jacket on as long as possible for protection but let the wound breathe!!!

That's why I'm here, to find out which are safe for turkeys. What I do for the peafowl may not work for her (like the Tylan) and I don't want to make it worse. So, any suggestion for a known turkey-safe anti-biotic would be wonderful, and I can grab it on my way home from work tomorrow. Vet says blue coat (blue kote?) to start so I have to stop anyway.

Update: I managed to get the jacket into a state that it would stay, and she did not manage to get out of it while i was at work today (thank goodness). When I unwrapped it all to check on it, the area was looking a lot better.

I coated it with some of the poultry spray I picked up from TSC (amongst other things) and let that sit on the wound for a while. It is supposed to ease irritation/itching, but I'm not sure how well it worked. Then I cleaned the whole wound again and clipped off as much necrotic flesh as I could and remove. I also clipped off as many soiled feathers as I could, to give the wound clear space.

I applied a coat of neosporin and let it dry, and then applied the blu-kote I picked up today. More than anything that seemed to help ease her desire to pick at it. I found a spray-liquid-bandage, so once the blu-kote was dry, I sprayed the bandage over it and let that dry too. Then laid gauze over the whole thing and wrapped her back up in the towel-jacket.

She's back to sleeping next to me on the couch, and is still eating/drinking when I offer it to her.

I checked anti-biotics at TSC but they only really had duramycin and liquamycin and I had no idea which, if either, would be safe so I left them there. If anyone knows if I can use one of those, that would be great info.

I have just used Blue Kote spray alone. workes great on that type of wound. and seems to stop yhe others from picking at it.

Does she have a "boyfriend"? Kind of looks like spur damage from a tom slipping off. it looks like the right spot for it. if it is, you might consider trimming spurs.

Nope she's a verrry imprinted-on-me, only-child turkey. There are only two birds in the pen who even have spurs and both of them steer clear of her.
