Horse coughed up mucus- allergies or worse?

I know this is a chicken forum but...
My horse after eating did his accordion neck thing which means he’s choking. He’s prone to that. I did my thing and massaged his throat to try and work it out. He was unusually agitated and wasn’t interested in my help. He walked around and tried to clear it himself. He went down for a moment to roll before getting up and trotting off. Then he just coughed and out came this mucus. I know he has allergies because his eyes swell up in the spring but we’ve never had respiratory issues. His breathing isn’t labored and after hacking up the mucus, he recovered for a moment and then wandered back to the barn presumably to finish his meal.

that was choke, wet his food, and make sure hes not packing more food ontop of what the choke was, or take the grain away completely.. if he has more fluid coming out his nose or mouth , take all the food out and call the vet.. that is not an allergy and his rolling was to try to knock the choke loose himself. You should always feed him wet soaked feed, and get his teeth checked and done. if hes choked before, he could have scar tissue that is going to cause choke easier from now on.. soaked wet food only. and spread it out in a large tub on the ground, never feed a choke prone horse out of a bucket hanging. Salive does not flow naturally , head down and a large thin layer of feed helps a lot.

Thank you. I’ve checked on him again. He’s not showing any signs of trouble now. He ate a little out of my hand just to see if he’d eat. I don’t know what a choke prone horse is. I only say that because I’ve found him choking on three occasions including this one. The first was a year or two ago and the second was about a month ago. He’s not fed from a bucket since he just kicks it over. I just pour it on the ground because that’s how he was raised. After the mucus came out he didn’t drool anymore. We’re still going to call the vet in the morning just in case and I’m going out early to check on him. I’ll try to soak his feed and/ or split up the feedings so it’s a smaller amount over time.
