I don't have a problem with animals being raised as food being eaten. I do however have a problem with eating an animal that has been a pet. I think people blaming the close of slaughter houses for the way horses are now is a joke. It is the people that keep breeding these animals and then tossing them, - that is the problem. I don't raise an animal that I can not keep myself, I may find a good home for it, but my main point was to raise it for myself. If i can't afford it , I shouldn't keep raising more. If people took more responsibility of what they raised and not keep doing it just to make a quick buck, horses would not be in the state they are now. Perhaps you should have to register your horses with the state each year... maybe something like that would prevent over breeding of them.

Here at our place we take pride in the quality of life our critters have before the bus swings by to go to camp freezer.

Our meat birds have good food, clean water, pasture and affection ( they are pretty dim upstairs, but still understand and enjoy affection)

Our meat rabbits have outdoor playpens for daytime, toys to amuse them in their cages and a breeding program that allows them to have a life besides raising young.

Our laying birds have free range 10 hours a day and a regular 4pm date at the gate with our 6 year old human child for a feed of scratch and a cuddle.

Our pigs have a play session and spray from the hose before the back scratching session every afternoon!

We eat them all and enjoy them!

Could I eat one of our horses? Nope, not in a million years, but i certainly understand that some folks do.

Yes we treat our food as pets, and proud of it!

It's wrong. Sorry, but IMO, no sane person - or respectful person - could eat horse meat unless they were going to starve to death otherwise.

If not for horses, we would not be where we are today... how many fields have they plowed? How many men have they carried into battle? How many have lived their lives in hard servitude for us? I think they have done enough to warrant their lives as work horses and pets. Not as meat animals.
