Horse owners- fly season is here!! (pics)

Oh, I see why you're asking the question...but there is also the neoprene around his nose/chin that keeps it closed...and then it puff out around the rest of his face...

You can kind of see it here:

Ok dumb question what keeps the flies from getting under the fly sheet and biting the horse on the tummy. My Morgan's tummy is so eaten up from the flies

Fattie, I think your horses Fly sheet needs some adjustments... it's too loose, but at least you have it facing the right direction... LOL

I would tighten it up so he doesn't get caught up in it. I have to use a fly sheet with belly band on my Quarb, he is very allergic to bug bites. I made a whole riding fly garmet for horses once. Cashel Company asked for the design info, then took my ideas and made their own w/o giving me any credit for my input..............

that's ok because what they made doesn't work half as well as mine. I have a few friends that still have the original ones i made them. Flys here are horrible.

The one you see here is Siggy (COF SIgaurd, 2002 gelding).

And this is Ole (2001 gelding):

Ole doesn't suffer from flies like Siggy does...so I just spray him down once each week with fly spray and he's good to go! I should start a thread for them so I don't hi-jack Fatties thread.

Oh, no prob! They are beautiful! I want a pony. I want one that is short & stocky, so it can hold my weight but be low to the ground. How many hands are your Fjords? Are they calm & gentle?

Siggy sticks at 14.2 and Ole is 14.1. Both are built like a brick house! I am 5'8" and weigh 185 pounds (yes, I'm chunky!), and both tote me around with no problem. My husband is 6'1" and heavier than me, and they handle him easily (but he doesn't ride much).

Both are broke to drive and will pull a cart all day long without ever tiring.

They have a great work ethic but can be stubborn. Never mean. Never really have a bad day - every day is a good day for a Fjord! Very tolerant of repetitive tasks (both are used for beginner lesson kids).

Siggy is happy-go-lucky....he never meets a stranger. He wants to be involved in everything that goes on at the barn.

Ole is the same, but with a little streak of naughty (like tipping over his waterer, pulling out the PVC fittings from the automatic waterer, and pushing down fences)...he has a slightly more pony like attitude for life. He's also more sensative to his environment - a little more "tuned-in".

Siggy is more course and typical of the older style of Fjords - bred to work. Hard. And he looks like he can get the job done.

Ole is a bit more refined (for a Fjord!). Bred more with saddlework in mind. You can really see the difference if you look at their heads and bodies side by side.
