Horse Talk

They only have twenty horses they are selling and they are all gorgeous. It is so tempting.

I actually never rented a trailer because it's such a pain to find one around here to even rent. I got lucky when I bought Sweetie and someone left me borrow theirs. It really wasn't what I was looking for at first, but I really kinda like this trailer. Was hoping for something with a toilet in at least lol, but I don't even have an area for tack in this one. It doesn't seem so small though compared to other trailers. Just needs a good paint job.

The important thing is that you like it. And you got it at a good price too, so yay! :D

Abigale - she out down a deposit and didn't take him?!?!
You lucky duck!! :th

Yes! I've never had that happen before lol. So I got $250 and basically had him started for free, the girl training him was just going to trade training June for Indie, but at the last minute I talked her into working with Reno too. So I got a bargain! Lol. Now I just need to spend some time with him and decide what to do from here.

Oh, also I've been up since 2 am, so I think I'm excited about seeing June

We're on the move! And I'm really mad at my brain for waking me up at 2:00 lol we've got a 3 and a half hour drive ahead of us, and then 3 and a half hours back :hmm
Picking up my own horse after a month is more exciting than getting a new horse :wee

There is nothing wrong with a good 2-horse trailer. That is practically ALL you see here on the East Coast. Bumper pull 2-horse trailers are completely normal here... most have ramps and a tack room, but many don't. I have two 2-horse bumper pulls right now, and a 3-horse gooseneck, and the barn I work at has a 4-horse head-to-head. Off all of them, the one I LOVE the most is "Rusty", my 1999 W&W 2-horse with mangers. That trailer is an absolute joy to pull around, so lightweight and maneuverable. The horses must love it, too, because they all willingly jump right in.

I have seen plenty of 5' wide 16' long stock trailers advertised as 4-horse trailers. THAT is cramped.

I am not having much luck with this new system.... First photo is my Shoop 2-horse. It is 7' tall and 6'6" wide. The black butt is a 17.3H 2000lb PercheronX gelding, and the white butt is a 16.3H 1500lb Percheron mare. Just to give you an idea of size...

The gold trailer is Rusty... it is 6' wide, 7' tall. The silver trailer next to it IS a tiny 2-horse, something you would only want to put a small horse in....

Okay, I picked up June and Reno about an hour and a half ago, and we're about half way home, and I'm finally calm enough to update you guys, and ask for advice.
I have no idea if they're trained, or how well they're trained, because I didn't stick around long enough to find out. They have been starved, they're not the worst I've seen, but they look pretty bad. You can see their ribs, hips, and spine. June has a huge chunk missing out of her mane, and she had scratches all over her face, it also seemed like she might be a little lame on her right back leg, but I couldn't tell in all the mud. They were not calm and relaxed when I picked them up, their eyes were wide and they were scared. I'm sitting in the truck right now afraid that June is going to get weak and fall in the trailer, not because of how skinny she is, but because of how fast she lost the amount of weight she did.
I sent three brand new bags of grain with them and they were suppose to have access to pasture and hay. At my house they only have pasture a majority of the time and they stay in perfect shape.
There is NO excuse for the way they look.
The "trainer" said Reno dropped weight because of the stress of training (it shouldn't be stressful?) and she did not acknowledge June's weight at all, just said that she was missing some hair because she got it caught in the fence.
I didn't see hay anywhere out there. I didn't see pasture anywhere.
I had 3 references from her, and I talked to her vet and although he couldn't assure me if she was a great trainer or not, he said he knew the family, and he didn't have anything bad to say about them.
So, what should I do? What can I do?
And is there any way I can get Indie back? He was underweight as well, although his change doesn't look as drastic as June and Renos, probably because he was going through a growth spurt when he left and because she hasn't been working him.
*ill post pictures of June and Reno when I get home, here's what I could sneakily get of Indie, before and after

Yup. I'm trying to find a nice way to tell her "bring Indie back to me or I'm calling animal control and completely ruining your reputation" because I don't want to start an all out war, but this is not okay, and it KILLED me to leave Indie there today, but I was too angry to think straight while I was there.
If she's civil enough to say that I can have him back if I come get him, I will.
