Horse Talk

@ChickenLover200 I don't know where to measure! Lol I would just ask the person who has the shop all those questions. If they make halters all the time they should be able to answer your questions. I may have 10+ halters for only 2 horses, but I'm not great with the sizing stuff either

I wish I grew up around Cowboys! I have one cousin, who I rarely see or talk to that's really into horses, and then I have my grandpa, he likes horses and has always let me have them at his house, but he's not super into them and always doing stuff with them. I got my first horse when I was 5, I believe, and I've had horses ever since, although the first 3 I had I didn't pay for myself, and the 4th one I traded one of the first three on. And then last year I finally saved up, sold the two horses I had (only got 450 on them combined) and then I bought a beautiful wonderful $2500 gelding buuuut aside from just not clicking with him he also could tell I didn't know how to ride so he knew he could get away with not listening. But no one ever thought I was serious about horses until I got June since I've had so much trouble with the ones I've had in the past, but I just didn't know what I was doing. If I grew up around Cowboys I'd probably be a great rider by now, sometimes it's discouraging

And all the not being able to find the right horse and not knowing how to do stuff with them in the past is what makes it so hard to talk my grandpa into letting me get another horse now. But he is realizing I'm a lot more serious now. I just wish I could get over the nervousness I still have.
And sneaks is so cute! Kinda looks like he's got highlights in his mane, I like it.
How tall are they horses you're looking at? And their bloodlines (if they're registered)? And whatever other info you have on them.
Btw you have a really pretty place to ride!

One is a registered paint the other is a registered QH. Both are mares.

The QH is 16 hands, which is good cause I'm 5' 8". Also has decent blood lines.

The paint is 14-15. I don't know much about paint bloodlines but apparently their good.

Holy crap you're tall. I'd personally go for the smaller one but I'm only 5'3" so that's why, if I were you I'd want taller, especially if you grow more, so your legs don't dangle off your horse

And maybe I'm wrong, but aren't mounted shooting horses usually tall?

Sometimes, shorter horses can sometimes make the turns easier but taller horses have less strides to take but can have troubles maneuvering around sharp turns.
So I think I will go for the taller horse, and she's built thicker so my dad can rode her cause my dad is also thicker

Haha, my sister and grandpa (and little kids) are the only other ones who can ride June becuase they're the only ones who aren't too heavy. Someday when I'm more confident I would love to have a tall horse. I've been to the rescue place I got Penelope at a couple times and when I'm there the tall horses like the OTTBs and the draft horses always pull at my heart strings more than the other ones.

I love draft horses!
After I go to college and move to my grandpa's ranch I want to have 30+ horses like my Great grandpa did, and a few draft horses.

That sounds awesome. My grandpas farm is only 60 acres, but that's enough room for 30 horses. But he won't let me have that many! Lol. I'm moving to my own farm soon, well it's actually my parents but they've had a change of plans and now it's going to be at least five years before they move out there, and when they do they may just build a new house, so for now and maybe for a long time, I get to live there. There's only 7 acres, but I plan on having at least 3 horses, potentially 4 but not that many for a while, and boarding at least 2. Doesn't sound like much room for that many horses, but my uncle has 80 acres that surrounds the farm and he's already given me permission to ride around on his land as long as I don't ride through any of the fields that have crops. Several feilds are just empty plus there's quite a bit of wooded area and there's a wet weather creek that runs through the middle of everything. There's not much crops on the 80 acres since it's just his personal farm, most of his crops are kept elsewhere, so it'll make a good place for trail riding I think. And the best part is that it's only 3 miles from my grandparents house, I could even ride my horses back and fourth if I wanted too. And now I just gotta know, what's your plan for 30+ horses?

What's your opinions on getting a third horse to help with buddy sourness? My thoughts were that at least the horse not being worked with or being worked with wouldn't have to be alone, but I guess then an even number would be better. I was thinking of getting a mini donkey foal that I could train myself.... does anyone think that would help?

Nope, don't think it would help at all. The horse not there will still be missing the "herd," and now there are twice as many missing the one being worked. I have a total of 5, and it doesn't matter who I take out, the others yell at them.
