I like that blue one!
I've been meaning to buy some custom halters just because I like that there's more colors to choose from.
Although I did get a really pretty one from the farm store in my town one day, here it is on my calf

Nice! Yeah, blue and green are my favorite colors. Cinnamon gets all green stuff, Eli gets all blue stuff. am I the only one who color codes her horses?

Guys, my dreams are starting to come true

I'm getting my round pen built and some fence put up this month, and I'm so excited that I got a little ahead of myself and put an ad out for horse training, BUT I did specify in the ad that I wouldn't be able to start for a month and that I had very little experience, and am just wanting to try and gain experience at this point. I thought I wouldn't get a single response but people have been calling me all day! There's even a lady in the town over from me who use to train horses and now breeds cutting horses and has a stallion who's an earner of $47,025 that wants me to come and work with some of her yearlings and 2-3 year olds to get them started before sending them to a pro cutting trainer, and she said she would be happy to give me advice and teach me some things. She's going to talk to her husband and make sure it's all okay with him and then call me back and set up a day so we can meet and I can meet her horses.
I'm soo excited, and nervous! I've got a month to work on my confidence, I still get a little nervous at a canter, but I'm bound and determined and I'm gonna work my butt off. Definitely going to go look at that mare this weekend cuz I need a horse I can get some practice on with the more advanced stuff before I start working with other people's horses.

Congrats! You'll get the canter down. I haven't done much canter yet because I have nowhere to go that fast without running into something

I can't practice becuase June doesn't like to go fast

She figures trotting is fast enough while someone is on her back. But if she's out in the field feelin good she'll gallop, and she's fast when she gallops!

URGENT QUESTION!

Sorry 'bout that, but i need a quick answer before I go "shopping". What do you guys think of the 4-H method for training a horse to take a bit? They used a soft cotton (I thinkit was cotton) rope that way the horse related something going into his mouth as soft and comfortable. I think Eli is ready to move up to this. When I tried his haltr on him, he lt me rub his bad ear with the back of my hand. He's still a little "ouchy" with it, but there's been improvement and I don't want to spend all my time working on that particular problem. Don't get m wrong, we are working on that problem, but I think I'm going too slow inmy training and I think it's time to mov up to bit training.
So if you like that method, would it work to use my cotton longe line rope? Or should I go buy a rope specifically for this part of the training? He won't take a bit without putting up a fight, rearing and stuff because someone untacked him wrong and lft the bit bang against his teeth, so I thought this would be a good way to teach him that it is okay to take a bit. Thanks in advance!

I've never heard of this before, but if he has problems taking a bit it might be a good idea

They also make rubber bits - something you might try after he gets past chewing on the rope.

My previous horse was trained like that. Was very annoying tbh whenever hr got nervous he would grab the lead rope or reins kind of hazardous..

Yeah, I was gonna ask if it would cause problems later with chewing on lead ropes. I would start with a rubber bit

One of the OTTB's I handled was very "mouthy." Not being mean, he just had to get his mouth on something whenever he felt nervous. Being a TB, everything made him nervous . . .

Feeding, blanketing, tacking up, farrier - didn't matter what it was, sooner or later, that mouth came into play, and since I was often the thing closest to his head, he'd have a go at me. I could usually discourage him with a sharp "ahh-AH!" but man, I had to watch him. Frankly, I'd prefer he went for the rope, and I often used it to distract him.
