Some horses do fine alone, just try her and see. I know of ~hundreds~ of mature horses who have lived or are living alone, and do not seem stressed about it. In fact, many of the ones I know of have lived into their 30's.

I have to side with GingersHuman here. You already know what it's like to deal with an animal that you don't dare turn your back on; is that where you want to be for however many years this animal lives? Who else is at risk of harm from this horse?

First time on this thread, sorry if this has been covered.
How do you know when/if to put down an old horse? Old mare is 30. Lost her horse buddy about 10 years ago. Had goat buddies until about 6 years ago. So i know she's lonely.
She's lost a few teeth but still holds weight. So coughs after eating hay but lately noticed her pooping at the same time. She's also been laying down more often. And she use to love attention and come running for it. Now you could be petting her and she'll hardly notice you.
My mom was the horse person but she passed away a couple years ago. She always has pasture and shelter available. Dad makes sure she has water, hay, and senior feed.
TIA
Kind of a plain color/almost ugly and I know nothing of structure but he sounds like an amazing horse, if only I could have a horse

A good horse is never a bad color!!! He sounds wonderful! They don't have great pics for conformation, but to me, mind and attitude are foremost.
