Omg exactly

I've been told before that eating eggs is cruel because I was eating baby chickens, and that was before I had a rooster. A surprising amount of people don't realize that a hen will lay an egg without a "boy chicken". And the there's people who say the wool business is cruel and that sheep don't need sheered! Like really?

The regulations on the carriage horses already are pretty extreme, heck, my horses have at times had a harder life than those horses...

They must have a 15 minute break for every 2 hours worked (I used to fox hunt, several hours of riding with rare breaks, and even then I was sitting on him and he didn't have access to feed or water)
They are not allowed to work more than 9 hours per day, and leave the stable no more than 1/2 hour before work and return no later than 1/2 hour after work.
They don't work when it is colder that -18 or over 90 degrees (my horses have worked a lot hotter than that)
Horses are to be blanketed while between rides in the winter (my horses don't wear blankets)
No lame or ill horses are allowed to work (ok, I follow this one)
They are not allowed in bridges or tunnels.\

Personally, I don't agree with horses in the city because of lack of turnout, but they work nearly every day, so they get plenty of excercise, and most show horses don't get turned out or if they do it's in a very small paddock for about 30 minutes... so really, it's not too bad for the carriage horses.

And in fact, there are people who believe that simply owning animals and having pets is cruel. PETA started that I think but PETA is a terrible and crazy organization anyway. But they seriously thinking owning pets is cruel and they should all be running free LOL they wouldn't stand a chance out there! And most pets would come running back to their owners! I'm not sure about Gator, he's fairly independent and can be a roamer so I think he'd like the opportunity to run free but I think he would eventually come back because he loves us too much. Or I would hope lol he also doesn't like being alone long. But I suppose if he found a pack to join he might ditch us LOL

Um yeah peta is the worst. I can see when people say horses should be running free like wild mustangs, how that can make sense to them, but some people think dogs and cats should be running free and I'm like ??? That would be a disaster

Lol yeah exactly! Not a good idea. And like how is starving to death on the street and getting any number of diseases or cruel deaths more humane than living in a nice cushy home? Lmao they make no sense.

And OMG I've heard the sheep thing too! Yeah, it's soooooo cruel to get that extremely hot, matted hair off

Mostly it's to keep them from getting hurt. Most show horses I have worked with take off bucking and will pull muscles if they are turned out, also, horses like saddlebreds that have weighted shoes can't turn quickly or they chance knocking their own leg with a shoe and hurting themselves so they aren't turned out much when they are in their show shoes. Also, they are rarely if ever turned out with another horse due to injurys caused by being kicked and bitten.

), or if he can heear the neighbor's many horses pitching fits

But yeah, funny story, he adores the sheep that live right next to our fence. He sticks his head over the fence and they all run over to say hi

It's so cute. And then when their border collie gets in to "practice" his job, Smoke starts bucking up and down the fence, and they just stand there frozen, staying as close to him as they can

Gosh, he loves those sheep.

But yes, show horses are dumb. Compltetly stupid. All the brains bred out of them for the sake of looks. I found a video of Armira's sire and DANG he was absolutely insane. Gorgeous, but he was rearing up sending kicks in the handler's direction. I couldn't tell if he was being agressive, but oh my word....

Ummm, that's what some people call "fire," or "spirit" . . . . .This is an Arabian stallion, after all. I wanted you to see him when he was simply doing what he was supposed to do, in a venue where behavior matters. A show horse has to have a certain "look at me" attitude, or he gets passed over.

And come to think of it, my QH mare Latte has done a bit of that when she's feeling full of herself . . . the difference is, she gets disciplined for it.

This is what I don't really like. I mean, my horses are turned out 24/7, a whole group of them, and have barbed wire fence (I know, I know, controversial topic) and they (knock on wood!) never get hurt. I'd love to show them (June and Jasmine), but if I ever got so deep into it that they had to be stalled 24/7 with no companion then I wouldn't do it. Their happiness is super important to me. I don't want a dull, sad horse who's had the life drained out of it because it can't remember what the sun or a friend looks like. And they say they're worried about them pulling a muscle, but if they were turned out enough they wouldn't get so excited that they pull a muscle. My cousin tried telling me one time that as long as you have a stall, grain and hay, that you can have a horse. She said they don't need turn out or companions and that horses don't have feelings. But I'd have to disagree.

I don't think show horses are stupid. Most are actually pretty smart, it's just that they're only taught what they need to know in the show ring, which isn't the horses fault at all. I can't speak for halter horses though. I don't like halter horses

But a reining or cutting horse has to be smart for sure. June's reining bred and I think she's a little too smart sometimes. Makes her a butthead. He's beautiful! And I think he's pretty well behaved for all that he's got goin on, I mean he's an Arabian, he's a stallion, he's probably stalled 24/7, and we know he's bred mares so being around mares probably gets him excited and I bet there's some in that show ring. He could be better but he doesn't look too crazy to me
