How do you do that? Do you have more than one incubator? That is why I like stagger hatching. I get a new batch of babies each week![]()
Yup, I have a starter incubator and a lock down incubator. Each week at the same time, I set a batch of eggs in the starter incubator and candle the eggs I set the previous two weeks, removing any dead/infertile eggs to make room for new ones. 4 days later, I take the eggs that I set 2 weeks and 4 days ago (day 18) out of the starter incubator and move them into the lockdown incubator to hatch. Since conditions are best kept the same for days 1-18 with the humidity being jacked up high for hatching days 19-21+ this works really well. How do you do that? Do you have more than one incubator?
Oh thank you for this information! I have done 3 six egg sets with only one from the 2nd and 3rd batch being fertilized. So this will help me out a lot! I have an old tin incubator that I’m gonna see if it works right that I can use for lock down. The one I use now is a magicflyYup, I have a starter incubator and a lock down incubator. You can get a cheaper incubator for the lock down incubator because the chicks can stand a wider range of temps at this point. Your starter incubator should be the best you can get. If you click the staggered hatching link in my signature, you can see how well I did last year.
The great thing about stagger hatching is that they recommend eggs be less than 10 days old when you incubate them. So if you put your best looking eggs in every week, you get the freshest ones.Oh thank you for this information! I have done 3 six egg sets with only one from the 2nd and 3rd batch being fertilized.
