Horses/hay

The white powder is mold. It makes horses sick. Shaking it out or washing the hay still leaves a lot inside the stems and leaves of the hay. Sometimes the horses eat it for a little while and don't get sick. If they are getting enough mold, they'll get sick. It doesn't take much. And where mold grows, bacteria grows, too. So diseases like botulism are also possible.

If ALL the bales are like that, I'd be on the phone with the supplier telling them about it. Most of our hay guys would be more than willing to swap it out or give our money back. They want to keep business afterall!

No it was just a bale or 2 and my horse did not get none from those bales. The really bad spots and there were a few I through out. I would not even give that to my goats. What I did give my horse I separated and looked at it and shook out just to make sure no mold was in there.

Just wanted to give an update on how the hay was and now gone. Everyone is good.

I have none left and will be more careful when buying next time.
