I knew a man who'd broken his back, I think in a car wreck. His dr told him he would never ride again. But after he healed, he was able to ride a Paso Fino with his dr's approval bc the gait is so smooth. He would have been very depressed if he could never ride again.
Oh really? I’ve never heard a paso fino’s gait called smooth.

That's what paso fino MEANS.
The Paso Fino name means 'fine step'. The Paso Fino is a blend of the Barb, Spanish Jennet, and Andalusian horse and was bred by Spanish land owners in Puerto Rico and Colombia to be used in the plantations because of their endurance and comfortable ride.

Paso Finos’ unique gait is natural and super-smooth.

The Paso Fino is born with a gait unique to the breed, and its attitude seems to transmit to the observer that this horse knows its gait is a very special gift that must be executed with style and pride! The gait is smooth, rhythmic, purposeful, straight, balanced in flexion, and synchronous front to rear, resulting in unequalled comfort and smoothness for the rider—in fact, the Paso Fino is known as “the smoothest riding horse in the world.” The Paso Fino is a graceful, agile, and supple equine athlete that uses all four legs with precision and harmony.

I guess I never thought all that tap dancing would feel smooth. Doesn’t look like it would.
