I want a mustang so bad

Today an interesting behavior showed up in my new mare, Dakota and my sisters gelding, Tucker. I know that sometimes horses will guard other horses, but today Dakota and Tucker hated each other, every other day they are best buds, today was different. Dakota constantly kept guarding me from Tucker and my sis, and Tucker did the same, guarding my sister from Dakota (but not from me). Every time I would step towards Tucker (or he would step towards me) Dakota would immediately get between me and him and attempt to attack him. My sister even came up and gave me a hug at one point, and koda pinned her ears and charged my sister.

can anyone explain this behavior, and what we could possibly do to fix it?

Because they seem like such cool horses and also I saw this video one time that was saying how they’re just pure horse, they haven’t been ruined by other people’s mistakes, etc. so they’re almost easier to train cause they’re just pure instinct and that just drew me to them even more. Not that regular horses are all bad or anything at all, they’re nice too, but I just thought that was really cool. But I liked them before that too. I used to watch Misty and read the books lol I want one of those ponies too. And I also like watching all those mustang makeover shows hah I know they’re a TON of work and not necessarily easy but they seem worth it to me. They’re also supposed to be really sure footed too. And smart. Just need to find one tall enough for me. There aren’t very many taller ones. But there are a few. Most of them are older though.

Oh and I like how when you put in the work like that, you’ll have a bond for life. That seems really satisfying to me hah

Where is your experienced horse friend? This is why I warned you about the info you received on the mare. It reeked of sugar coating and half truths. That is extremely dangerous behavior.

I would reach out to thr experienced horse friend that has been helping you, and have them work with all three of you. (you, your sister, and the mare)

Speaking of Misty, have you heard/seen the Beebe Ranch is threatened to be purchased for development? People are trying to save it. Quite sad, I hope they can keep it for the history behind it!

That's really neat. In all of my horse ownership, I've never been drawn to getting a Mustang, so I've often wondered what makes people choose them!

That makes sense! They’re definitely not for everyone but for me I’m really drawn to them hahah I like quarter horses and paints too though. And big draft horses
