Using overstimulation until a horse stops reacting to it the stimulus. For example, they'd whip a horse until it stopped reacting to it, like what I think happen to Max.I’m good how are you? I’m not sure I know what that is lol

Poor buddy! Sorry to hear that.Reason I ask is I am certain that someone used Max's good nature when training him and flooded him to the point of abuse. He is afraid of flags and lunge whips, but weirdly doesn't react at all when I try to use them. He ignores it and just stands in the corner of the roundpen, tense and scared. To be clear, I have never used them to hit him. I wiggle the lunge whip behind him, and the flag just makes noise. They are what we use for the others, and they understand what it means. It is a problem because I can't lunge now, and he's basically dead to pressure. He's slightly lighter in the saddle but is pretty much completely immune to pressure on the ground.
Oh goodness! Maybe about the same?!Good just about to sell a kidney for my kids $700 eye exam and glasses todayI’m not sure if horses or kids cost more?

I’ve only ridden bareback at the walk and trot, and all on pretty chunky horses/ponies! I’ve never cantered, I was too scared the first opportunity and had fallen off 10 minutes before the second, and the faster trot trying to pick up the stubborn pony’s canter hurt my tush. One day! I’ve cantered without stirrups a few times and done well at that, but I know I’m gone if they make any sharp turnsI rode cici bareback for the 3rd time today! The first two I just walked on her this time a trotted and cantered for a total of like five minutes! Cici was fantastic and I wasn’t slipping or sliding but it was extremely painful!!! I put her tack on and ended the ride cantering in the field. Not sure how you guys ride bareback at faster than a walk! lol
Ugh your horse is less expensive than my Guinea pigs then! LuckyI'm only paying $60 per month feeding Max, soooo kids lol
Finding a reputable HORSE hay provider is a must in the South. Lots of cattle hay around... And yes, if they can mow it and make a round bale, they'll sell it... Even if it's chock full of scrub and weeds. Most people i know around me atleast dont bale the sides of the rode. They have specific hay fields.
They leave the cut up sides there or dont cut the grass/weeds anyways.
They have two things sometimes sprayed on hay. One is a bacterial innoculant to help reduce the chances of any mold on the hay, but it's supposed to actually improve the hays palatability. The other is a preservative for hay baled at higher moistures. I'm guessing they used one of these and that's what is bothering the horses. I'd let the provider know because they need to know the horses won't eat the hay.Finding a reputable HORSE hay provider is a must in the South. Lots of cattle hay around... One year my normal provider ran out of hay because of drought. They referred me to a neighboring provider a few miles down the road from them. He had a full barn of green bales that looked awesome. We bought 150 bales. Got them home and my horses wouldn't touch them! After inspecting them much closer, I think the guy actually sprayed green dye on them to make them look "fresh."Not really sure.... Our goats would eat it but I ended up having to go 4 hours away to find hay that my horses would actually eat.
Just saying people pull all kinds of shenanigans out here...
Max eats about 2.5 pounds of feed a day right now at 26 dollars per bag, about a bag and a quarter a month and goes through about 2 give or take (extremely tightly packed) square bales a week at 5 dollars a bale. Everything is as low sugar as I could possibly find. So being exact, closer to 70, but it depends on how tight bales are and how his weight looks.Ugh your horse is less expensive than my Guinea pigs then! Lucky
(Hay, somewhere between 3 and 5 pounds a month, costing me somewhere in the $40 range if I’m lucky, $50+ if not)(every month…)
And then veggies ($5 a week or so if I can find good prices, 10+ if not)
Pellets and vitamin c cookies aren’t too expensive and take a while to go through, thamk goodness
And the vet is 95 for the base appointment, and my two have been in and out of the vet at least a dozen times by now. Knish’s spay last week was only about 600 total, including meds and everything! That was a blessing. Latke needs to go back now that they’ve got copies of her X-rays (those were pretty expensive too) and in conclusion: why did I pick the mini-horse exotics (same digestive system and many similar mannerisms)
