@paintedChix So sorry about the loss of your youngsters! How terrible! :hugs

It surprises me that the stallion was APHA, they seem like such all-round and family-oriented horses.

Seemed like a really nice facility you were at!
Thank you on the lightning. Honestly, thought we'd deal more w/ lightning in CO & MT, not in NC.

There are great horses in every breed. There are quiet ones who work w/ beginners & are "spouse" horses. Then there are the ones who consistently have "bad" or "dangerous" personalities & will pass them to their off spring.

As to breeding them on - i didn't ever want horses related to that particular horse. I do remember that not all of his offspring were like that.

There were working lines considered to be "tough" & notorious buckers, but I had lots of fun with the Hancock lines of ranch horses. A lot of trainers & riders did not. A few provided great rodeo bucking horses & were used heavily by rough stock contractors to produce relatively easy to handle horses on the ground that were awesome buckers in the arena.

So true. I'm not a pedigree snob, but I certainly look at lines to sort of get an idea of the horse's inherent traits with regards to temperament and character.

Doesn't mean that I don't judge the horse in front of me, but I do feel that certain behaviors can pop up further down the generation. My mom's horse for example, she's always saying he acts like his granddam, and he does LOL!

Latest picture of our glorified pasture ornament... 😂 She's so spoiled.
