Thank you heartsizedfarm! flockofbantams, Zee is actually a very dark chestnut according to the genetics testing we had done last year (crazy right!). I still call him a bay. This photo shows his color a little better (sorry, he's my sister's boy so she tends to share the rockin' jumps or dark stable shots on FB for me to copy.) I'll take a pic of his baby sister (Zara) and share. She just turned a year old.

Oh I see it now... Yep I'd call that a bay too! But the test said dark chestnut! Wow!

Update on my mystery color horse cloud. I called the animal genetics and asked witch test I needed to start with to find out what color you call my boy. I had 2 different genetics people stumped. They said they really didn't know what to call that but told me to start with the appaloosa test to find out the the LP factor and to start with the red/black factor test to find out what his now white base coat was. They said the white base coat with palomino rump spots and black freckling on his shoulders was unusuall but made the digestion that he could be a notified double champagne appaloosa. We will see after the test results come in....

I would look on craigslist first. I have seen really nice saddles going for 150 bucks.

I just realized byc had a horse thread. Yay! I currently have 4. We are in a severe drought and I had to downsize. I competed when I was a teenager but ran out of time and money I kept my quarter horses as they were the most versatile. I just wanted to jump in and say hi to everyone. Byc has turned into my everything animal spot lol.

Thornhill saddles are an excellent quality saddle at an affordable price. Good materials, good workmanship, etc.

I currently have a Thornhill Vienna dressage saddle, and have been nothing but pleased with it.

$385 is a reasonable price for that saddle in good condition. If it *FITS YOUR HORSE* then I would go for it.

Saddles are DEFINITELY one item you do not want to go "cheap" on. Cheap saddles are often really crappy quality, build and fit, and can actually harm your horse. Proper saddle fitting seems to be the most common element that horse people are ignorant about. It is extremely important to have a proper fitting and properly placed saddle - you risk injuring muscles and joints otherwise, sometimes to the point that horse is permanently damaged. The more time you spend in the saddle, the more important the fit it for the horse. And no, just adding extra padding DOES NOT solve all the fitting problems.

I'm not saying GOOD saddles cannot be found for $150, but it is very rare to be able to find them. You could equate it to finding a low-mileage, like-new Mercedes for $500. It just doesn't happen very often.
