Horses!!!!!!!!

Poor hen! Please post pictures of your horse bowing! My old horse could bow on the ground, but we sold him. Got any tips for teaching them to bow with you on their backs, and how to lay down? I really would like to teach my mare and mini how to do it.

Well I started off training my boys by asking them to pick up there hoof as if I was going to pick it out. No treat at this point. Then asking him by giving a slight tug on his lead and showing him his fav treat between his front legs and getting him to drop his head between his legs while holding his hoof up (with me holding his hoof).
Then just work on this a couple mins before feeding time everyday. When he he get to where u can tap his leg and he will pick it and hold it and eat a treat between his legs then u can move to the next step. For me that is to gently pull back on his hoof and lower your hand with the treat to the ground. Even if he only drops a couple inches and first go all the way still reward him. Also at this point start to use the command bow. Do this everyday till he figured out his balance and he will finally get to where his knee will hit the ground. When he does this make a big deal out if it. Praise him and reward him and I don't repeat anymore that day. I end on a good note. Then just gradually take the reward away and the helping hand away and get him to to now eith only a tap on the leg and he only gets a reward with when he completely bows with just a tap and the word. After you get him to bow with only a tap and or word switch to using a crop or stick to tap his leg while still working from the ground. When he takes to the stick or crop then you can try from his back. I had to pull in a second person at this point to help him b/c he had to trust himself and me not to fall when he bowed. It took him a couple try's but he got it. The second person was there to reassure him and help pull his leg back and use the treat to drop his head down. Go back to using treats for every little improvement and the wean him off of the treats and only give treats when he does it very well. I started with my mini until I was comfortable then trained my bigger boys. Good luck!!! I will get out and take pics this weekend and post them. We are still working on Boeing with me on his back and he gets better everyday. I can do it with just me now.
Just a kinda time frame to go by... I started at the very beginning in April and have just now got to the bow while on his back. But each horse is differnt and some catch on faster then others and I haven't worked with him consistently ever single day.
Good luck!!!!! It's so much fun! Me and my horse really bonded and we are closer then ever we really had to trust each other!!!!!

My two boys-Jonathan is a 9 yr old Appendix Quarter Gelding. I show him in the 2'6 hunters. Artie is a grey 5 yr old Oldenburg/TB who is in training but will eventually (hopefully) be a 3'6 hunter horse. He is doing gymnastics and such right now :)
