Hospital bill summary.... GEEZE LOUISE!

The only answer is the current proposed plan. People that can afford insurance or are young and don't have any health issues balk at it, but it's the only answer. Then they can open clinics for people to go to for small problems, instead of the ER's. Hopefully Obama can get it done before the 2010 elections. If the country is still suffering from the mess he inherited, I'm afraid the Republicans will get a majority back in congress. If that happens they might as well close DC down.
It will be like the last 2 years of Bush. The 2 parties seem to be incapable of agreeing on anything. The only time our 2 party system works is when one has a large majority. hen all the people on the one side are happy while the others side is raging. It's amazing the way the country has been split since the 2000 elections.

If they do get the health plan in place I hope it still leaves the option of private insurance open.

I think the people (all of you) need to rise up and TELL your new Government what you want... if a country as small as the Uk can provide health care, and good health care at that, provided by it's tax payers, then the USA has no excuse..none whatsoever to than to provide for it's people.... TELL the Government....ALL OF YOU. With the tax payers that you already have, if a National health Service was to be put in place it would be phenomenal for all.....think about the sheer size of your country, the number of people in it.... you would be paying far less through taxes than you are paying the rip off Insurance Companies.... I am NOT a fan of Insurance Companies (having worked for one decades ago and walked out of the job because I did not hold morally with what they expected me to do)

SO all of you get on your soap boxes and tell the new Government what you want, if you don't speak up, they won't know......

Obama's already doing that. The majority elected him and he ran on a platform of establishing a national health care plan. Everybody is on board except for the republicans. The ones in congress don't really matter, but the senate republicans are still an obstacle. Hopefully he will be able to buy enough of them off with some pork spending in their states. If he can do that he'll get it through. The people already spoke.

I have never understood this and never will.

My brother has a full time job but cannot afford medical insurance. He has gluacoma and takes 3 kinds of drops and they cost over $100.00 each per month. He goes to a low income clinic for his eye care and they never have samples. My dad goes to his high priced special insured paid glaucoma doctor and gets samples all the time. His prescriptions get sent to Canada to be filled for a 1/4 of the price it would cost in the US.

there is no doubt about it...the price of RX and healthcare in the USA is unreal...

someone is getting their pockets lined thats for sure

in the movie sicko there was an American woman who used her friends address in Canada in order to get healthcare for her and her son. Even though it is a drain on the Canadian system that I pay into really if that helps a child receive health care ...it saddens me that someone has to risk fines or imprisonment for the sake of health care...

I have been extremely fortunate my children and my family are really healthy..My middle child did not have his first cold till he was 4 years old, My children go to the family doctor once a year for their physicals and thats it...

opps sorry double post...this was the day of the glitches...

Keep your fingers crossed. I'm interested to see how they're going to do it. I would imagine that they will offer medicaire to anyone that wants it at a lower cost than the big health plans. It would be on an ability to pay scale. Current health plans would stay in place but would have to be more competitive to stay in business.

I hope he has enough time to get it done.

Hmmm. For that one American that is lying for Canadian coverage there are at least 1000 illegal immigrants in southern border states that use the ER for their doctors when they have a fever. That drives up hospital charges and puts the burden on those who already have insurance.

Here's a little article in the Wall Street Journal about wait times and refusing treatment due to age (the guy was only 57) http://online.wsj.com/article/SB123413701032661445.html
Both systems have flaws. Personally I wouldn't mind paying more and having things covered. But I don't want to have the government tell me that at 57 I was too old for hip surgery either.

I am sure there is more than one American lying to get Canadian coverage. Our government has threatened people whom they catch doing this with fines and imprisonment, unfortunately alot of the people going to Canada are our elderly and young because they have no other choices. This is similar to the reasons there are illegals in our country using our ers, because they can not get help from their own governments. I see this as a vicious cycle and very sad that people will stoop to playing the blame game on anyone except for the people who are lining their pockets with monies that should be spent to have health care available to everyone.
I am fortunate to have insurance, although I still pay a hefty chunck of my own money. My daughter lost her job her DH and her kids have insurance, but because of the cost can not pay their
mortage. It is a no win situation, I am all for universal health care, I hope Obama can get it done.
