I have 10 hens and 1 beautiful Roo. He's my buddy. He takes very good care of his girls and always comes over to see me or say hello when I'm outside. I went away for a few days and hubby was taking care of them. My hens also just started laying eggs the day before I left. I get back today and I'm outside and my Roo runs after me and was ticked off that I was going into the coop! He even kicked me! This has NEVER happened before so I'm wondering he's mad that I'm taking the eggs away? I thought that would be a hen's job, not my Roo.

I don't know how long a chicken will remember people, and I don't know how long you were gone, but it sounds like the roo was protecting his flock from a stranger. You may have to let him get to know you again.

I've noticed that once the roos reach a certain age, their behavior can change.
