Thanks again! Australorps sound perfect for this situation. Am excited to be finishing up the brooder - did temp tests today and am putting together a simple waterer with a Rubbermaid 2 gallon water jug, some various fittings and hose, and the little nipples mounted into PVC. Am sorting how to make the height of the PVC rod adjustable as they grow. Also saw some chicks at the local feedstore but they are straight run mutt breeds and as cute as they were with my luck I'd end up with a dozen roos! Felt sorry for them as they were older and unsold...so they may meet an unkind fate. Here's a pic of the little guys that need a home... in case anyone is on here from the high desert (Joshua Tree, CA area) and is looking for babies.
