HOT HOT HOT

I've read that misters are great too, it just feels so humid here when it's "hot."

I'm going to get one for next summer, though.

Do you think it gets hot enough in Portland, Oregon for misters?

I am curious what breeds of chickens you have?

Soaker hose works too. They love laying around it while it is on. That is what we had in the flower bed that they liked so much.

We spend a while in the high 90's every summer and occasionally hit triple digits. It wouldn't be something we used all summer, but I'm sure they'd appreciate it on the hottest of the hot days.

I've got a Blue Laced Red Wyandotte, a Golden Buff, a Barred Rock and the girl in the picture came to me from our local shelter. We aren't sure what she is.

The Barred Rock and the Sex Link are the most heat tolerant of the breeds you named. The Wyandotte is a little less tolerant of heat.

Obviously your unknown breed is very intolerant of heat.

I leave out pans of water with some ice in it. They occasionally stand in it. Also wet down roof of the coop to bring the temp down, plenty of shade & free range during the day. Wet down different areas of the ground so they can dust bathe. Occasionally I wet them down too. They dont like it but they cool off. I also freeze pans or jugs of water with lots of veggie scraps & treats in it. Theyll peck at that for awhile.

Looks like our two day "heat wave" is over. It's a whopping 63 degrees today! 30 degree difference in less than 48 hours. Oh, Portland. :slowheadshake:
I learned about keeping them cool just in time to start my winter prepping!
I've logged this all in my brain for next year though. Thanks for the great ideas, everyone!

I wish it was 63 degrees here. Maybe the low temperature will get down to 63 by the end of this month.
