Hot pepper seeds

Four years ago tried crushed red pepper seeds to increase egg production. I figured if it didn't work, I'd just have spicy chicken... I had wormed about a month earlier, but production was still not so good. So I added one bottle crushed red pepper seeds on the ground in 5 of 9 chicken coops. Every coop with the seeds had an increase in egg production in about week. I was down to 5 or 6 eggs daily, and tried this and was up to 15 in a week, and 27 in two weeks. In following years I had about the same results. Pepper will deworm them and makes the blood flow. It takes good blood flow to make bright red combs, and bright red combs means egg production. If this is forcing them into lay, then I'm guilty as charged, but the way I see it, it's giving them what they're lacking to be productive.

Just because (pick one) you hate or love hot pepper has no bearing on its value as a feed for chickens.

For instance: People used to feed gun powder to their watch dogs to make them more deadly.

Besides, if there was any benefit to feeding hot pepper seeds the Beginning Poster would not have any trouble finding a source of pepper seeds.

I had success with pepper seeds 4 winters in a row. 5 of 9 coops had pepper and an increase in production. three more years all coops with pepper seeds had an increase. I know it helps my production. I had my doubts, but did my homework for 4 years with over a hundred laying hens in 9 different groups. I know it works. The second year I added pepper to several coops and waited a week before adding to another group. A week later each group had an increase. Two weeks it doubled. I still have the records recorded each day. Pepper speeds up the metabolism and kick starts the hens lay cycle. It's only a dollar a bottle, and it won't hurt a hen. I don't add it to the feed. I just pour it on the ground and they all peck it until its gone.

I am going to try this. DH likes to grow peppers and I enjoy dehydrating, then crushing them to make pepper flakes. This one jar, for some reason it is too hot for anyone, even him. I nearly died just pouring it from one jar to another. We call it "Hotsy totsy". When I mentioned this idea of peppers being good for the chickens, he said "feed them the hotsy totsy ". I plan to mix it in their feed to seriously mess with the mice.
