I have 25 chicks (mixture of delawares, buff orphington, hamburgs, black stars, barred, white and buff rocks, and a lonely cochin) that are 3 weeks old that outgrew the tub I bought for them and were flying and making a big mess all over my tack room. We built a small temp chicken coop and small run for them until they are old enough to be moved into a larger chicken house. My question is, is it too early to do this? I put a white tarp over the house and run for shade as well. But the weather here is about 100 degrees each day and probably about 70 degrees during the night. I've read where you should wait until they are 4-5 weeks old. Can they handle this? What signs should I look for, in case they can't? I hate to put them back in the tack room because they were destroying it, but will if I have to do this for another week or so. Thanks for any input!

I've got 2 and 3 week olds out in brooder cages in one of my coops and they're doing fine. Our temps are about like yours. The one week olds are going out tomorrow. The older 2 groups don't have a light anymore, the one week olds will have a low watt bulb for a few days at night.

Put them in a coop. They'll do fine at 3 weeks. They'll huddle at night... just what they are doing now.

they should do fine, but if your really concerned, give them some watermelon every day, its 80% water or so, and it will help keep the cool, thats what i do when it get really hot, i just cut off part of the watermelon, with the Rhine on, and they eat right up
