Hot weather and fans for chickens

I keep a fan in my coop, it keeps it a lot cooler and it keeps down the flies

I have fans. My chicks love the air blowing on them. I also put blocks of ice in their water. They do not like being misted.

Steven, looking at your coop, I have a suggestion. It's what I do with windows and pop doors on my coops. Think about making wood covers to go over the screen, stain them to match, then hinge them at the top. Then you just open the bottom a foot or two and brace it open. This will protect the screened area from the sun and the rain and you could close them for warmth in the winter. You could open one or two or all of them depending on the weather. This works well on my coops, especially the one that has south facing windows as that is where most of our rain comes from. I also put a large fan in the window at one end of the coop blowing out. Of course the inside of the fan is also screened so no one accidentally get in it. By it blowing out, it brings in cooler air without blowing directly on the birds.

Hi, all ! I have fans in my coop. I leave them on 24/7 when it's really hot. And on the subject of rain, mine stand out in the pouring down, DRENCHING, downpours! They dry so quickly. The rain kinda just slides off their back. I did notice the other day when it was storming, and they were standing out in a torrential downpour, that they were FACING the wind. I guess they didn't want it blowing up under their feathers

I have a small coop and run for just two birds. I have a 12" fan I lay across the top of the run (enclosed all around with hardware cloth) and a tented tarp over the fan so it does'nt get wet from rain, this allows for air flow. I put a frozen water bottle next to the waterer, and throw one in the run for them. So far, so good. But boy oh boy they look hot when I get home from work, all panting and wings out. But when I let them out to forage, they run all over the yard in this heat anyway! So I put a little tub of water out so they can step in it or drink out of it. Cool grapes in the afternoon keeps their inards cool til bedtime!
