Hot weather barn coop

Looks like I need to do some updating!

Let's see.....

I have 3 coops finished. I had planned on putting in 3 more coops on the other side of the barn, if I do, it will be later on. I do have the 3rd coop & run finished. Right now it is sitting empty since I sold my English Orps & my Crele Legbars.

In fact, I've made a few changes since this pic was taken. The nest is gone & moved to the middle coop. The door has been moved since it was hard to get in with my wheel barrow. The roost was in the way. I plan on using this last coop when adding new babies to the existing flock.

I've also built a brooder in the alley up against the coops for the babies first few weeks. I don't have a pic of that, but will get one next time I'm out with my camera.

I'm thinking about putting in a brooder room in one of the stalls on the left of the barn. That way in case I have any escapees, they will still be contained. I have thought about putting up wire with door on each end. I've had 2 of my grown chickens get out of the door. Luckily, the dogs weren't around at the time & I was able to get them back in.

If you were closer, I'd say anytime! lol

If I remember right, you already have a great set up. I loved how you strung the line up across your open area so that your chickens can get out & run around.

Mine is a work in progress. Thanks for the compliment!

:) I am recuperating from a shattered elbow. Other than that things have been pretty good. My son is getting married at the end of April and that has kept me busy in the 'human' world. ;)

I recently added Silver Wyandottes to my flock and am enjoying them. I lost my Speckled Sussexs last year. I am hoping to replace them this Spring. (My husband doesn't know that yet)

So tell me a bit more about your coop. All that open space/hard wire. How is that working out weather-wise?

How are you and your RA coping?

Sorry to hear about your elbow. How did it happen? Sounds painful. How wonderful your son is getting married! I know there's a million things to do before then.

The coop works great for the Texas heat. I still put up fans in the summer to keep the air circulating. It's so hot & humid.

The RA? Good/bad days. On a new med now since I started getting allergies to my last one. Of course this one makes my hair fall out, so I doubt he will keep me on it long. We've already talked about getting off this one. Nothing is really left except for the biologics. The fatigue is my main complaint. Nothing helps. I pray daily for the Lord to help me deal with it.

Texas is hot and humid??? :lau

I am sorry about the meds for the RA. I will keep you in my prayers.

The elbow. My husband and I had finished planting Sago Palms and had pulled the cart into his workshop. He had parked it between the auto lift. We were laughing and talking when I got out. The only thing we can figure out is I somehow got my boot caught underneath the steel leg of the auto lift. I have a tiny triangle cut in the toe of my boot from the fall. I heard Ken yell "LISA" and I hit/splat the concrete. I didn't hit my head luckily.

Ken took me to the ER. They xrayed and said I broke the tip off of my elbow. What was suppose to be a 45 minute surgery turned into a 2 1/2 hour surgery. I just can't seem to do things normally. My surgeon had to piece my elbow back together. I have 5 pins holding it together.
