awwww .... I so wanted this one to especially be a hen.

I can't get this darn little chicken to hold still long enough to get a side shot that was decent. I will keep trying. Thanks for your input!

You can judge him on your own. Look at the base of the tail and around the neck, all these feathers will be small and round just like all the other body feathers, if it's a girl, however, if they apear skinny and long leading down to a point at the tip, that's male feathering. In crested birds, the crest will be that way too, hens will be tight , round, even crest. Roos will have long flowing pointed feathers in their crest Here's a shot of my roos and hens to compare to.

Wow!! What beautiful chickens!!!! I LOVE these Houdans. Now I wish I had gotten more than 1 to increase my odds of a hen. Thanks for sharing.

I pretty much stink at distinguishing the difference but I too, am leaning toward it being a little cockerel, though, based on your pictures. Sigh .....

I am curious though... your rooster has a distinctive red comb. My Houdan has no pink or red whatsoever at 12-13 weeks. Does it form later on the Houdan? Or perhaps they don't all have the red comb?

bottom line is .... I need to just be more patient and start thinking about which bird I'd rather try and keep ... the Houdan if it's a cockerel, or the Dark Brahma (which I am certain is a cockerel). Both are so sweet right now ... but they are still young, I guess.
