Has anyone ever had a chicken that spent alot of time in the house? My Leghorn always on the outskirts of the flock and when she was injured (her comb was torn) we brought her in because we had no other place for her. She became like a dog in the house. She goes out in the morning in a smaller run next to the big run with the look and no touch idea. We had her out free ranging with the others and for the most part all was well. But a few were very aggressive with her so my husband made a place for her to roost in the house and she so enjoys hanging out with us. She is a very happy and content Leghorn she has the best of both worlds and she is also the one who layed the first egg! Has anyone ever had such a friendly chicken?

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided to join our flock. I've never personally had a chicken in the house, but there is a complete thread on BYC members with house chickens at https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/299187/people-with-house-chickens that you might want to post on. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Cheers.

Yes I have one of them and she always looks for a quick way into the house after I put her outside and she hides for a wile after getting back inside but if I go into the kitchen she is right under my feet looking for anything I drop .......

My friend has had various house chickens over the past 25 years. Currently she has 2 serama hens, and one silkie hen. They are her kids and she cooks for them and wipes up after them immediately. They wait by the door(with the dog) when she leaves the house . When she returns everybody mobs her. The chickens also watch TV with her in the evenings.

A house chicken can have a very fulfilling life and very often they are just as lovable as a dog.
