Hey everyone,

Figured I would start a House Plant thread as I couldn’t find a recent one started.

I started my houseplant journey only a little over a year ago. In that year I’ve collected over 50 but am now sitting at 40. Some I just ended up not liking & others I just didn’t get along with.

My favourite species to collect is Philodendrons (all types), prayer plants (Calathea, Maranta & Stromanthe) & I have a newly acquired taste for Alocasia that started with a Regal Shield.

This hobby has nearly taken over my life (like my ducks did) & I even have an insta dedicated to my plant hobby as I love showing them off & didn’t want to bother my non plant loving friends on my personal insta 😂

Anyone else love bringing greenery into your house? I love to hear about other people’s plants & it’s always interesting to hear what species people can readily find in their area that are impossible to get in other places.

We can also use this thread to help each other with tips & tricks for plant care.

I have four because they are expensive and I don't have a job.. currently I have a dying Madagascar dragon tree, I suspect I rotted its roots. Any ideas on how to bring it back to life?

My living plants include A ocean spider plant, Golden Devils ivy, And a Snake plant :)

Replant the one with root rot with fresh soil in a pot with good drainage. Drainage is the number one most important thing with plants!

Golden pothos (epipremnum aureum) are so much fun!! I also really like Sansevieria because you almost never have to water it since it’s pretty much a succulent

yeah it has drainage but I think I just over watered it..

When I repot it, should I keep it dry, or water it? I haven't watered it in several weeks.

Is it ok to use potting soil that has been sitting outside in a bag over the winter? or do I need to buy another bag?

These are behind me right now, both are Ficus elastica cuttings which I rooted last summer. They’ve been doing so well, but I need to water them lol!

It’s probably fine to use that soil. Sometimes I like to mix regular soil with succulent soil to make sure it has good drainage. I have one of those plants here with me right now, and mines looking a bit droopy since I water it so little. They do well with being watered twice a month and in high light.

Yes! I don't know sciency names... I like watering my plants, soo most of mine end up with root rot. My spider plant loves water though and she (I named her noodles).. is thriving!!.. My Snake plant I try not to water too often, she has a babyyy <3.. I stick my finger in the soil and if its moist or soil sticks to my finger, I leave it alone. If its dry, i water the plants..

this is my second madagascar dragon tree, killed the first one b/c root rot already. Maybe they just aren't the plant for me

I just killed one of my marble queen pothos because it was behind a Sansevieria and I had no idea it was there until I moved the plant in front of it 🙈🤣
