housing chukar, space, pen setup. can they be mixed with bobwhites?

I'm new to chukar. I just traded some eggs for chukar eggs yesterday and am currently in the process of letting them rest for a little while before adding them to the incubator. How much space do they need as adults per bird? what kind of set ups do you have them in? and would it be possible to house them with my bob white quail? or is that a big no no?

Oh no don't house them with any other bird.They don't even get along too good with their own kind.Each state has requirements on chukars,ringnecks and bobwhites,so you will have to check with them and you will also need a permit for them.I had good luck raising chukars on washed masonry sand.If they are hatched and brood together you should have minimal problem but still keep an eye on them.They are cannibals just like the ringneck pheasants.
The space you need also depends on how many birds you are raising.

Ohhhhhh. I didn't know they were canibalistic!! The person I got the from failed to mention this! How do I keep them from having these types of behaviors? I have 36 eggs in the bator right now... I'm not expecting all to hatch and out of the ones that do I plan on keeping 12. What size would you recommend for 12 and how soon will I be able to tell the gender

If they are hatched and raised together they are not as bad.For 12 birds I would say minimum of 16x16.You will not be able to sex them until they are adult size.You look at them 1 day and you have 3 males and 9 hens,and then the next day you have 10 males and 2 hens.
