Housing..err boxing

I like my rubbermaid brooder because it's SO easy to clean and re: the heating up, I liked that factor because I could get rid of the red lamp and the electric bill sooner...

I just dump the shavings in the compost pile and then hose it out...refill and go...I suppose if you want to find a new box every week or every few days (depending on how many chicks you have) that would be quick and easy too, but finding a new box might be a hassle??? I know around here it's tough to find nice sturdy big boxes, but if you live near a feedstore or some store that gets big boxes daily that would be nice!

Eitherway your chicks will call it home...

My big girls (8 weeks, maybe 9 - they grow too quick) are in a corner of the garage with a deck box for one wall and a screen door tipped on its side for the other side. (brother in law is coming to build the coop friday - FINALLY!!)

I'm with m2wandc - as long as they are warm and have food and water they're pretty happy.

ETA: I reuse my cardboard box until it gets icky - I've also taped pieces of boxes together to make bigger boxes. Duct tape is my friend.
