Well guys, sorry for the lack of updates. They've gotten to the 2 week mark! Hopefully this will mean they're pretty much safe. It'll still be a week before I can handle them. Bummer, because they are amazingly cute. They are so big it's hard for them all to fit, let alone for Nala to fit too! I've been trying to get pictures the last two days but it's kinda hard to do, with the poor lighting in there.

So far, we have -
1 very dark pinto with a pinto face (maybe with eyeliner)
1 dark pinto with a split face (probably with eyeliner)
at least 2 other dark pintos with solid faces
I haven't been able to get a good look at the runt. There also might even be another in there I can't see!

They are so beautiful. We are going to retain either the split face or the pinto face.

Do you guys know how absolutely HARD it is not to stick my hand in there?! :love

OOH, you are a strong person! LOL!
We need pics when you can...

Looking foward to picture!

I read somewhere that when a hedgehog is pregnant it is almost impossible to tell untill they give birth. Is that true?

It is. During this pregnancy, Nala didn't gain any weight or show any signs - she didn't even go off her feed the night she had them! I checked her stomach often - in fact, I had her out just a day or two before she had them and I couldn't even tell she was pregnant by feeling of her belly. I was going to take her in for an ultrasound but the vet advised me that we probably wouldn't be able to see anything.

I got a very short but sweet video since Nala was taking a break. I'm afraid the DSLR is much too noisy when it captures, so I chose video instead. Yes - the babies are in a empty, upside down ice cream tub. This was the method suggested to me... however, I can assure you that I will not be using it again. It's hilarious - the tub says "Family sized" right above the hole I cut, but yet the babies and Nala can barely fit! Hilarious!

Hedgie video here!

If you can't watch it (you really should!) here's the best pic I could get from the stills.

Today has been so heartwarming even though it's cold, rainy, and gloomy outside.

There are actually 6 babies in the nest box! A split face, pinto face, blaze face, and 3 other pintos. I got to handle one of my precious bundles of joy today... this little dark grey pinto baby girl is the sweetest little thing. Looks and acts just like her momma!

Well, I did get to handle all the babies today! Enjoy seeing these little sweethearts!

Algerian dark grey pinto with split face, eyeliner, mismatched ears, and one half/half ear. Such a sweet girl!

Last but not least, the runt of the litter. Algerian dark grey or grey pinto.

awww so adorable! They were born on my birthday too! I had a hedgie when I was a teenager and just loved her. Maybe I will have to get another soon.

They are, aren't they? You should. There's nothing quite like a hedgie!
