hovabator Genisis 1588 Questions.

I have the new 1588. It does really well with the temp for me as set by the company. But I did have a bit of problem with the humidity being enough during lockdown. I use a mist bottle and a sponge to help out and it works fine. Also when I add water I use heated water to keep the temp level up. I LOVE MINE. I would like to by another for a hatcher later in order to stagger my hatches some.

I really like mine as well. I am also finding that it may be running at a lower temp because both of my hatches have been late. I am going to get another thermometer before I set my next batch to find out what temp really is. I also find that it can be a little bit tricky to keep humidity up during lockdown, but overall, I really like it. The previous suggestions are excellent. I did like it enough to get a second one!

I just tried a water dish to help with the humidity. I've never done this before, but I tend to have shrinked-wrapped chicks as the hatch progresses.

I didn't have any trouble getting humidity up during lockdown. I had water in the wells and the sponge in the dish...and it kept around 65+ very easily. If I needed higher than that I would just add another sponge :)

It's now day 17( lockdown tonight at 930) and I have good news and bad news... Good news is I have 11 dark silkie eggs that looked really good when I candled them! The whole incubation time the temp. Held between 99.5-100f and the humidity 46-50%. Last night tho with 4 days left the power went out!!! I was left coming up with a plan that was in the best interest of the chicks. Came up with a plan to put the incubator in my car and plug it in there, problem was, the car had to be running... A little more brainstorming and found away around it! Getting an adapter that's a regular plug into car charger! (Car charger worked without car running) So called my brother at 11 at night and he ran me over one. This way it could still run without the car running. The power was out for a total of 2 hours. I don't think anything to drastic happened and all is well again. Now when I go into lockdown I add water into troughs 1 and 2 right? What should the humidity be around? So far I have been extremely impressed with this incubator! If It wasn't automatic, there would have been no way I could have saved them during the power outage..

That's great! I have had no drying-out issues with ~50% humidity at lock-down (as long as you don't open the incubator during the hatching process) but I see that you incubated at that percent. I would say 60-65% would probably be good; the best indication is how easily the chicks hatch and what they look like (dry vs really wet and sticky). You don't want to drown the chicks. Then, you can see what you should do differently for next time!

Thanks! Do you think 58% would be good? It spiked up to 70% when I started so I cracked it for a second and now it's been holding at 58% is that fine?

I would imagine that it would be good. I find that it is somewhat of a challenge to keep the humidity stable at lockdown. What I plan on doing for my current hatch is have a small tupperware (with wire lid) filled with water, but with the top plug open and a line of plastic fish tank tubing into the tupperware so that I can add water as needed. I also need to see what size tupperware I need to keep the humidity at about 60% with the plug open. It really is trial and error!

I wouldn't worry about it dropping to 56% too much. Is there a way you can add water without opening the lid? Last time I wasn't as prepared but I was able to add water through a straw in the top plug hole, so that I did not have to remove the lid.

Since I had just went into lock down I decided to go ahead and add a wet paper towel. This morning I woke up and it's right at 60% another question. I have been following the incubator instruction and it says to leave the plug in? Is that right?!
