How a bookkeeper built a coop. :)

I’m working on my phone and cant exit the above post to add these for some reason, but here are the construction pics of my house in case they help. The front door is screened but has a built in solid door that comes off in nice weather, and the left/right sides have the closable vents. The little vinyl window opens for more airfloe of course, and we replaced the screen that came with it with a permanent hardwire mesh screen inside. So between front screen/door, window, and vents, it can be very open or completely closed up but still have ventilation.

You can barely see in the bottom pic the roofing we bought and were going to use, which is a recycled rubber sheet of awning. Because the whole coop and house went under my wooden deck, we went with a plywood roof covered in leftover roof shingles like on my house. If it were out in the elements, we would have used those awning panels since they would have provided more of a water block/porch effect.
Dang! I'd live in that! lol Holy smokes that's a very cool looking coop. :) I love the removable door when nice weather....clever. Thanks for sharing!

I thought about putting a window above the trap door...but was again thinking...draft?
Well, the run roof would help block the wind.
Long narrow vent there.
Where you are placing this coop could help too, depending on your 'site' and the prevailing winds.

You did a good job throwing together the coop...but rescuing birds with a quickly made too small coop this close to winter might bite you. Thinking about snow and tending the birds is another aspect that might be 'uncomfortable'. Unless you plan to build a bigger one before winter really hits...buying a shed might be an option.

Well, minor setback on getting the chain link enclosure. Fetching it Monday. But...did get a roof on and more ventilation. Ran out of daylight to fine tune the roof but it's on. Raining today so can't do anymore tweaking...but girls and guy are dry.

Thoughts on a twirly roof vent? ** I can't believe I actually found a thread with that exact description!** lol That's what I call them too. :)
I think since winter is here your ventilation is more than adequate. I would reevaluate the need for the vent in spring or summer. But that is just me.

Nice. Louvered vents should allow plenty of air circulation but eliminate the "breezes". good score on the aluminum roofing. There's an Amish outfit within 45 minutes of me. You've given me a great idea to perhaps call them, and pick up some scratch and dent stuff for my run! Sweet. Thanks.

Yes, builders often have remnant/waste pieces of building supplies. However...if they are Amish...you may have to drive there directly and ask them...as they may not utilize phones...and the Amish are known for using everything for something. "Waste" is not the norm for them. But it's worth a shot!
