I have to say that I was extremely worried about the inadequacy of my coop in these frigid temperatures and 40 mph winds.
Reading nightmarish stories of other folks' misfortunes really had me fretting.
I made some tweaks in hopes to better serve my little friends.
I lowered the upper roost (the one they're sitting on in pic) down to the lower bracket to give more space above their little heads. I removed the other roost temporarily as they only sit on this one anyway. Then off-centered the remaining roost towards the nest box side.
Plexiglass now covers the small rectangular window to minimize draft.
Under the nest box I placed a piece of metal roofing horizontally to block wind under the coop as well as adding a piece of rubber material (same as I used on the nest box lid) to the front side under the coop. Back side was already plywood as it faced north. Large rectangular window is still wide open.
So far...no frostbite or odd behavior. They act like it's sunny and 70 degrees. They come out of the coop each morning, get some grub (hanging under the coop) go scratch in the run...do their thing.
So, I must of accidentally did something right.
