How about a Thread for Embdens?

My dewlaps handle cold weather better than my Africans. My Muscovy ducks are the most sensitive and rarely venture outside on bad days.

I have 13 Africans in white, brown and brown/white colors (plus 2 African/Toulouse crosses). Africans are great.

Can someone let me know what kind this is? Male or female? Very sweet but hanging out all by itself at the park today..... :(
Thanks!

Kalsti it is a mix of looks embden and something. I am not good enough in other geese besides sebs to say. I just wonder if it might be looking for your white and is pals with it??? When I seen it I just kind of got that feeling in my gut.

Thanks RURU~ my Joey has actually been away from the pond now for two months almost....But this goose is usually out with the 9 other Embdens-- today all alone. Guess he just needed a time out! Any idea on the sex of the goose? I thought if it is an older female it may be good for Joey as a companion!

Can you put your finger on why it could be alone?....does it seem ill? When it walks around, is it like a ship, all proud (male), or poodling about finding stuff to eat (female)? The head looks heavy, like a gander, but really it depends what breed-type it is..... the behaviour will tell you more.
Also, it could simply be an older gander that´s been ousted from the group.
If it´s not sick, and is reasonably easy to handle, why not see if it´ll get on with Joey? If Joey is a goose, she´ll be happy either way...If you should end up with a pair but don´t wish to breed, take the eggs away. Or if this one is an older male, could be past it anyway!
The most important consideration is that it´s not sick. By the way, it´s very pretty.

Thank you for this great info! I will check again today to see if it is still being ousted from the group~ I've been advised to get Joey my goose an older female-- so I am hoping this is one. May be an option if they don't accept her into their click anymore.....But how to tell if it is sick is a bit harder......Will note if it is eating today.
