How about a Thread for Embdens?

Thank you for this great info! I will check again today to see if it is still being ousted from the group~ I've been advised to get Joey my goose an older female-- so I am hoping this is one. May be an option if they don't accept her into their click anymore.....But how to tell if it is sick is a bit harder......Will note if it is eating today.

Hoping the goose isn't sick. Not eating, moping around , head down may give you some clues

Can someone let me know what kind this is? Male or female? Very sweet but hanging out all by itself at the park today..... :( Thanks!
this is a gander coz his eye is leaning down and he looks old and looks sick and it looks like a cross of male embden gander and a female toulouse or pomi coz of its head :D

Could be anything really but it might be sick coz its a old gander or it might have lost a fight ! If ganders were once boss of all of the others and loses his fight coz hes old will make him alone because the others chase him away or starts biting him which will make him down and exclueded from the group

If this goose is sick now is the time to catch it and maybe take it to a vets to see what is wrong. It would be sad if it is not anything terrible and it gets worse and ends up dieing because of neglect.

Kalsti, you can tell if it´s sick, symptoms like Lydia said. I reckon serv´s right on this one, he´s probably old and has been chucked out of the group. By the photo, he doesn´t look sick, just rather tired, but could be harbouring worms, so if you take him on, it may be an idea to get a vet to check him out, or at least give him a dose of worm medicine...he´s almost bound to have them, being in a park. Then he won´t pass any on to Joey. That´s if you decide you´ll take him on, of course. I reckon it could be a good match, though...who knows, he may have lost his missis and be feeling very lonely and in need of an older gal.....

Kalsti it is a mix of looks embden and something. I am not good enough in other geese besides sebs to say. I just wonder if it might be looking for your white and is pals with it??? When I seen it I just kind of got that feeling in my gut.
This goose reminds me a lot of my Francis, who I think is an Embden cross of some kind. Embdens always have blue eyes, so that may be a clue. I think Pilgrim males also have blue eyes, though, so ....could be a challenge to decide. Hope this goosie works out for you. It's beautiful and may be even prettier when it gets cleaned up a little.

Thanks Goosiemama and all! If he is still alone today I will try to get him......(It was advised I get an older female though......do you think it would be ok with an older male?) Joey is very sweet natured and peaceful.....

I think an older gander would be fine.

Well, I for one suggested a female, because a young male could make a nuisance of itself with an older goose (and possibly with you, too, a bit fiesty maybe). If, on the other hand, this is an older male, it could work out quite nicely. I would guess that he´s quite calm, living in a park and familiar with people all the time.
