How about a Thread for Embdens?

It dosent really have to be a old goose coz ive a 2 year old embdenxchinese paired with a 13 year old chinesexgreylag !Oh and we are just sugesting he could have lost his mate but we could be very wrong but you could still try

Someone mentioned their goose annoying their dog, but the dog remained.gentle. what kind of dog do you have? Im currently looking for an outside dog to keep the pest, opossum and raccoons out of my yard at night.

I think that may have been Miss Lydia that mentioned that. But it depends on the dog. I have some big mongrels here. 2 are littermates. The dog is frightened of the geese, avoids them, he´s ok with the chickens, but I don´t trust him with chicks, His sister is fantastic. Doesn´t touch my birds, but sees off guan and hunts possums etc. Just a mongrel.

Hi LIB!
Timing is everything~ the day we showed up to rescue this little guy at the park, one of the regulars and on our board also decided to walk there RIGHT THEN! So we put the question to him and felt that we needed to do that because he along with others at the park like the little Muskovy, and have even named him! Well of course he said he was not for us taking the duck. So we decided to get a vote at the next meeting in two weeks.
I have not been to the park for almost 10 days now (kidney stone). So-- I hope to get there today. Another friend of mine is very interested in adopting Sparky (the Muskovy) and she lives in the hills. BUT she just lost her little flock (to raccoons???) so I felt torn about having Sparky go to live with her.
When the Vet was examining Joey last week I mentioned Sparky and the Vet said Sparky would try to fly back to the lake possibly if I got him for Joey's friend......
So back to square one again! Sheesh!
How are you and your cuties doing?????

She lost a whole flock?! Oh dear, that´s cause for concern all right. The regulars would be terribly upset if Sparky went to new home and got killed! And I can imagine the regulars in the park like to see the birds...I would, for sure, people want them to look at but they need to be looked after too.
How far away is the park from you? I´ve found that birds I´ve bought from another place have never tried to fly away, but adult birds that I´ve sold to my neighbours come back like they´re on elastic!

My hubby calls them homing ducks! I´ve had to swap them for younger birds.

What happened with the other goose/gander?

Thanks for asking, mine are all great. I have 19 goslings in all, different ages, I find them fascinating and so sweet. I´m letting my tiny ones (2-3 weeks) out of their pen with their mum during the day when the weather´s good, and they love it. Next week they´ll be big enough to stay out all the time. The grass is shooting now as the rains have started, and they´re having grass feasts. I´ll post a pic when the internet can cope...

I´ve been busy with my brahma chickens..a hen was sitting on eggs then came off 2 days before they were due to hatch...she had a bad injury that I hadn´t noticed, and abandoned her nest. I´m trying to get her well. Three were still alive when I checked the eggs, so I put them under a reading lamp, managed to stabilize the temperature at 36ºC, the best I could do, and they actually hatched 2 days later!

Glad you´re feeling better.

Yes, I felt that way also! She is a wonderful person and would take good care of them...but sounds like they need to make some modifications to their pen/living arrangements. I still would like to try to bring Sparky here-- so see if he and Joey could be companions.....but being it is not a goose probably would be a stretch.
It always amazes me how you all can raise eggs to hatch, little chicks. That is a little scary for me right now! I will try to get to the lake today to check on all the group~ will give an update shortly.
Joey is doing SO much better after being on the Silver Sulfadiazene cream for 5 days. MUCH less itching. :)
Chat soon--- keep me updated!

If that person lost all of her flock to raccoons then she is not providing a secure place for them at night to keep the predators away from them.

Sorry you are having trouble with kidney stones. Get well soon....
