How about that hot weather?!?!

It's been in the 90's here the last couple of days.....it's going to be that way for the next week. I took my son to pick strawberries at 7:30 this morning hoping to beat the heat. It didn't work lol but we managed to pick 13lbs in about an hour. Having a freezer full of jam is worth the effort....who says Americans won't pick their own fruit???

Hey all speaking of hot weather - besides plenty of water what else can you do for the chickens? a couple of my BO's looked like they where panting?? hubbie sprayed down the run to try and cool the ground (no puddles just damp) so they might feel a touch cooler - any helpful hints??
Thanks!

According to our town's temp sign it was 109 when I passed by today. It felt like 150, or so, I'm pg, so you can add about 40 degrees to that...so 190, or 200 to me. I tried to stay in the air cond. as much as possible. This is killing my garden though. It is all burnt up and soooo dry. Sprinklers aren't helping much at all.

I'm in SC btw...for those that don't know.

I have been told that freezing 2 liter soda bottles then putting them out for the chickens to roost on or snuggle up to works.

My run isn't finished so the 6 weekers were stuck in the coop all day. I opened a window and set up a fan with a frozen water bottle in front of it. That seemed to help keep the inside of the coop somewhat cool.

I also filled the waterer with ice water.

If you mist the top of an animal's head, that will cool them down quicker than other methods. When we were moving from a cool area to a desert area, the vet told me to keep a spray water bottle handy in the car and when our animals (dogs and cats) began to get to hot, to mist the top of their heads and their paws. Obviously, can't mist the chicken's paws but you could the St. Benard

I'm with ya'll! We had a cooler than usual spring here in south Texas, but summer is here! It hasn't been too bad here yet. Low 90's with LOTS of wind! We tend to have high humidity!

They just said on the weather it's going to be hotter tommorow. Apparently it didn't reach 100 in Cola. today, but it sure did here. I'm just going to say once again...it was 109 here...109 thats according to our town's thermometer. How am I going to survive this summer??

Where did this heat come from? Today I had tons to do, and it was so stinkin hot. I was sweating like crazy, but I need to get these projects done. I got almost done with one call duck pen, built a roost for a chicken pen, and measured lots of wood to be cut for the next projects.
